THE BEDS

The beds listed here form the core of my bed cataloque. A number of beds are shown in their pre-polished state. These photographs don't do justice to the final polished finish. White painted beds seem to be popular again, so I'm reluctantly offering to hand-paint my reclaimed pine.

  •  All beds can be made with high or low footboards
  •  Beds can have straight sides or sleigh bed sides
For bed sizes, please see Notes.                         Click on photos for a closer view.

Lindford ~

Painted ! See 'Buying' Note. Can be made with straight sides instead of the sleigh bed style shown. Can also be made with a low end board with a saving of 20%.  See Arford and Selborne's low footboards.

Passfield ~

Passfield: similar to Lindford above but with diagonal boards. Not shown are the supports that fix the headboard to the bed frame.

Grayshott ~

Grayshott: spindles and fretsaw patterns give this bed a Scandinavian look. The shorter spindles are standard. Based on an original bed owned by Sven.

With triangular pediment.    Shown on right- bedhead and footboard. The footboard is pedimentless.

Kingsley ~

.

Based on an original design. The sides are normally quite high but can be reduced in height. Looks fine with a low (board) end footboard. Note the hexagonal posts. Normally made (and looks best) with one long panel, as shown in the complete bed pics.

Conford: for those who can't stand fussy decorations on their beds!

Solid chunky design, suitable for the farmhouse with free range chickens.

.

Arford ~

Arford: rife with applied carvings. The footboard can be lower than shown in photo 1. The carvings are adapted to suit any size bed. Please note that a low foot board is just a board without any panelling. Photo 4, my daughter showing off her polishing (for pocket money!)

Alton ~

Alton: impressive for its simplicity ?

The Mickey mouse pediment could be re-designed by a willing customer!  See Selborne's headboard below for ideas!

Selborne ~

Flamboyant and sensuous. Selborne's posts can be shortened !

Froxfield~

. Froxfield. Very nice

  Froxfield .details:

. .    Low panelled footboard                                                                Post carving by  Sarah Goss

High panelled footboard

The omission of chunky posts give this bed a lightweight look. Also saves up to 4'' of space on a standard 6'3'' bed. The footboard can be made lower but best kept panelled as shown and not made with a board as in Selborne above. If you want just a board (see Selborne above) for a footboard then the bed qualifies for a 20% discount.  Pics 2 & 3 shown unpolished.

FROXFIELD look alike in light grey

.

.Portchester~

.

Portchester. Has that fortified look. I like it. Hexegonal posts. I'm tempted to make the headboard a fraction higher so that it's not swamped by the pillows.

Oakhanger

The defining detail here are the shaped posts which flare out and the lean back/camber of the top rail.  Can be made with a lower footboard in the same style (my preference, as in pics 5 or 6 ) or with a simple footboard.

More beds in the same style below:

Bed 2 has a drawer/truckle bed underneath. The matress size for this is a standard small single: 30x69'' (76x175cm)

DRAWER UNDER BED

.

Froxfield with a full depth drawer for storage but not for a standard matress. For the drawer to fit a standard matress the bed will need to be a couple of inches longer.

Truckle~

.

Truckle: low bed for sleeping under lorries. Doesn't come with the two pelmets shown !
